The Fossa Way
The Fossa Way is a paved trail starting opposite St Mary’s Cathedral in Killarney town. It is suitable for both walking (including buggies) and cycling. The trail has a number of side paths that give differing views of the lakes, mountains and woodland. From the gates of Killarney National Park, the trail followings the Deenagh River, with a popular optional path winding through Knockreer estate. In Knockreer, keep an eye out for the native Red Deer as well as the herd of Kerry Cattle. Both trails pass by the Castlerosse Hotel, before entering woodland on the way towards the small village of Fossa. Once you exit the woodland The Golden Nugget is across the road on your right. The ideal stop after your walk from Killarey!

For 17 years we’ve been using this place as a landmark for our guests; “Turn at the Golden Nugget”, but we’d never bothered to stop in. So on a lark today, we did! We were so surprised by how large, light and modern the restaurant is. The veg soup was HOT and delicious, my Vegetarian pizza was EXCELLENT and my husband loved his grilled vegies and goats cheese “Fossa Wrap”. It was busy with families coming and going the whole time we were there. Our waitress was lovely & the prices were very reasonable. It may have been our first time there, but it certainly won’t be our last!
